Does a root canal treatment hurt?
It is the most common question. The reassuring answer: no, modern root canal treatment is not painful.
A treatment under anaesthetic
Root canal treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic: you do not feel any pain during the procedure. Very often it is the infection that hurts before treatment — and the root canal treatment is precisely what relieves that pain.
And afterwards?
Mild sensitivity may last a few days while the tissues heal. It is easily managed with an ordinary painkiller. Because the treatment is performed under the microscope, it is precise, which limits after-effects.
