After a root canal treatment: what to do
A few simple precautions help the area heal well and help your treated tooth last.
The first few hours
- Avoid chewing on the tooth until the anaesthetic has worn off
- Stick to lukewarm, soft food on the first day
- Mild sensitivity is normal: an ordinary painkiller is enough
The following days
- Keep up excellent oral hygiene
- Keep your follow-up appointment and, if needed, the appointment to fit a crown
- Contact the practice if the pain gets worse or there is swelling
