Broken tooth: what should you do?
A broken tooth does not always hurt, but it should be checked quickly to prevent infection.
What to do
- Rinse your mouth with lukewarm water
- Keep the broken piece if possible (in milk or saline solution)
- Avoid chewing on the affected side
- Book an appointment quickly
The solutions
Depending on how extensive the fracture is, the tooth can be restored with a composite filling, an onlay or a crown. If the nerve is affected, root canal treatment may be needed to keep the tooth.
